Kunsang Choling Nunnery

The beginning of the Kunsang Choeling Nunnery

Lama Gondup adopted two young boys and a woman, who was a grandmother of one of the boys and fed up with the worldly materialized life and gave them shelter in the beginning. He could feel other’s pain when he recalls his past, that was full of misery and struggle. Lama emphasized on the altruistic mind (the Buddhahood) and guided by his ultimate goal.

After feeling responsible, he thought it necessary to establish an institution; a nunnery with the ideas that females are still struggling for their meaningful existence. It was a significant idea of Lama to uplift females in every aspect of life as much as possible. It helps to preserve and spread the sacred principle of Buddha, the Lord of peace. The institution could contribute to bringing peace, brotherhood, harmony and a sense of brotherhood between the different people and religion.

To provide opportunities and for the betterment of females, the Nunnery could establish the potentialities of the nuns by providing them Dharma education along with some practical education. It creates efficiency in them and have their individual identity. At first Lama Gondup established non-religious school and now the Nunnery teaches Dharma education for those who are interested in it. This is how the Nunnery came into existence.
